Nothing Unlucky
Your Assistant Coach
An assistant coach for grassroots football: notes at the pitch side, the match on video, Tuesday's practice and a review of every player. The kind of help a big club's backroom team gives its coach, for the volunteer who has none.
"Unlucky" Is Rarely Luck
Shout "unlucky" from a touchline and it is meant kindly, but it rarely describes what happened. The over-hit pass, the first touch that ran away, the shot from the wrong place: each comes down to technique, a decision or where the player was standing, and each can be coached.
The difficulty for a volunteer coach is finding out which it was, putting it in words a nine-year-old will follow, and turning it into a practice, usually in an evening after work. Nothing Unlucky keeps the notes, the video, the sessions and the players in one place so that the coaching gets better without the evenings getting longer.
See It. Name It. Practise It.
Built for the phone already in the coach's pocket, with a tablet or laptop for the longer jobs.
The club in every screenshot, Northfield Youth FC, is made up.
Built Around Children's Football
Most of the people a grassroots coach works with are children. That shaped the product more than any feature did.
Nothing is shown unless the coach chooses
Every note is private to the club. A player sees a note only when the coach has named them in it and chosen, note by note, to show it. There are no parent accounts.
No rankings, no public statistics
There are no leaderboards, no league tables of players and no automatic tagging or judging of children from video. That was a decision, not a feature left for later.
Access is enforced by the server
A head coach sees the club, a coach sees the teams they look after, and a player sees their own page. Those limits are checked on every request, not by what a screen happens to hide.
AI is off until the club switches it on
Optional summaries of a game, a training or one player's notes are disabled for every club by default. It is the same position we take with clients in is company data safe in AI tools: decide what the data is before deciding what reads it.
The full detail is on the product's own safeguarding page.

Why Egon Expert Built It
Nothing Unlucky began as the tool a grassroots head coach wanted for their own team. Grassroots football is already close to home for us: Egon Expert Ltd is main sponsor of Bracknell Panthers FC, and the problems a volunteer coach has, too little time, no specialist help and a lot of responsibility for other people's children, are ones we see up close.
It is also where we test our own advice. Offline-first capture for a pitch with no signal, per-request access control, share links that expire and are never indexed, and AI that stays off until someone decides otherwise are the same calls we help clients make through software development and fractional CTO work.
